The Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f/1.4 ZE is a classic normal-length prime lens designed for Canon EF-mount SLR and DSLR cameras. Built around the legendary Planar optical concept — a symmetric six-group, seven-element design originating at Zeiss — it delivers consistently high sharpness across the focusing range with even illumination throughout the aperture range. Its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and provides outstanding control over depth of field for subject isolation, while the nine-blade diaphragm produces smooth, pleasing bokeh. The ZE mount version features electronic contacts that communicate with the camera body, supporting all major exposure programs (P, Av, Tv, M) and AF confirmation through the viewfinder, with aperture controlled via the camera rather than a ring on the lens. Zeiss's renowned T* anti-reflective multi-coating is applied to individual elements to minimise flare and ghosting, resulting in rich contrast and accurate colour rendition even in challenging lighting situations. The all-metal barrel and mount ensure long-term rigidity and reliability, while the precise, long-travel manual focus ring offers deliberate, tactile control over focus placement.
