This ultra-wide focal length is paired with a bright maximum aperture, making it excellent for shooting at all times of day and for depth of field exploration. Despite its compact form, this Art series lens delivers impressive optical and physical performance, with dust and moisture resistance as well as a water and oil-repellant front coating. The optical structure of 17 elements in 15 groups includes two SLD elements, three aspherical glass elements and a large double-sided aspherical glass element, contributing to strong sharpness from corner to corner along with reduced aberrations and distortions. Sigma's multi-layer coating helps control flare and ghosting effectively. A stepping AF motor delivers quick and quiet autofocus performance, making this lens a capable choice for both stills and video work. The internal focus system means the lens maintains its compact profile during use. Handling is well catered for, with a physical aperture ring, an aperture ring lock switch and an aperture ring de-click switch — the latter being particularly useful for smooth, silent aperture changes during video shooting. A focus mode switch and manual focus lock switch round out the physical controls.
