Gekkeikan Horin Junmai Daiginjo Sake 720ml

Horin is Gekkeikan's premium flagship sake, brewed in the historic Fushimi district of Kyoto by one of Japan's most storied sake houses. The blend draws on two prized sake-rice varieties, Yamada Nishiki and Gohyakumangoku, polished down to fifty per cent of the grain so that only the purest starchy core remains. The result is a refined Junmai Daiginjo that has earned a reputation as one of the brewery's most decorated releases. The bouquet opens with a delicate fruity aroma, layering creamy rice and banana with fresh honeydew, melon and Asian pear. On the palate it is round and silky with a medium, well-balanced body, lifted by gentle acidity and a touch of sweetness. Green apple and pear notes give way to a deeper umami core of mushroom and roasted chestnut, before a long, polished finish. Best enjoyed lightly chilled and served in a white wine glass to draw out its full aromatic range. It pairs effortlessly with sushi, sashimi, lightly seared fish or grilled poultry, and is equally rewarding sipped on its own.
