Description
Vinoque is the small batch, alternative variety label from De Bortoli's Yarra Valley arm at Dixons Creek. The family business was founded in the Riverina in 1928 by Italian immigrants Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli and is now into its fourth generation, with the Yarra Valley winery and restaurant established in the late 1980s by Leanne De Bortoli and her husband, the Burgundian-trained Steve Webber. A dry rosato built on Nebbiolo, the Piedmontese variety planted alongside Sangiovese and Viognier on the Dixons Creek home vineyard. Expect a pale salmon hue with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry and rose petal, moving into a crisp, savoury palate with citrus and blood orange lift, a whisper of dried herb and the fine tannin grip that sets Nebbiolo apart from softer rosé varieties. Bone dry and textural through the finish. Fruit is drawn from the estate's Dixons Creek plantings, where vines first went into the ground in 1971. In the rosato style the juice is run off the skins early, which is what gives the wine its light colour while keeping the tannin fine and the acidity taut. Serve well chilled as an aperitif or alongside antipasti, charcuterie and grilled seafood.
